How do I get started?

  1. Find a training session that works with your schedule below. If you cannot find one that works at your own campus you’re welcome to attend one at a different campus, as long as you bring your student ID.

  2. Register for your chosen training session by clicking the link at the bottom of the page.

  3. After you sign up, we’ll send you an online form from our DBS provider, Verifile. Please complete this before the training.

  4. You will need to bring your up to date DBS check or some ID documents with you to the training. You can find a list of acceptable documents here. If you have trouble figuring our what’s valid, just email the Campus Director at your university and they can help.

  5. It’s done! You’ll be given a mentee in February or later in the spring to mentor someone until the application deadline in October or January.

What are the training sessions?

Our training sessions cover a range of things including the coaching skills and how to help someone identify their aspirations as well as practical things around time management and safeguarding. We want to make sure all our mentors feel well prepared and excited about being a mentor, that’s why we run training sessions at all our campuses prior to the launch of the large-scale mentorship schemes in February!

The training sessions typically take 2 to 3 hours and you cannot mentor without having gone to one. If you were trained a while ago and want to refresh your memory you’re also welcome to attend again!
